Gift and Donation Policy
The Hopkinton Town Library encourages the
donation of books and non-book materials for its collections. Gifts of books
and other materials are accepted with the understanding that those items not
added to the collection will be relinquished at the discretion of the Library
Director. Proceeds derived from any disposition (book sales, etc.) will be
used for the improvement of the Library's collections.
Monetary gifts, bequests, and memorial
contributions to support the Library's collections and services are
particularly welcome. Books, videos, and other materials purchased with
bequests and memorial contributions will be identified with special donor
plates when appropriate. Suggestions for subject areas or other areas of
interest to be purchased are welcome.
Gifts of a more specific nature, such as
works of art, furniture, equipment, special collections and real property,
shall be referred to the Library Director, in consultation with the Board of
Trustees, for acceptance. The Library cannot place a monetary value on gifts
for tax purposes, but receipts will be given upon request.
All donations are gratefully acknowledged
and, in the case of memorials, the family of the person honored is notified.
A donation of cash or securities of $5,000 or
more will be administered by the Hopkinton Public Library Foundation, the
Library’s endowment fund unless otherwise specified by the donor. This
endowment fund is invested with the long-term interests of the
Library in
mind, and is not necessarily used for the Library collections, but is used to
provide extra benefit to the Library beyond normal operating expenses.
Adopted by the Hopkinton Town Library Board
of Trustees: September 16, 2003.
