1000 Books Before Kindergarten
NH 1000 Books Before Kindergarten is an early literacy initiative that encourages families to read to their young children and to use the resources of their public libraries. The project is based on the national 1000 Books Before Kindergarten initiative. NH 1000 Books Before Kindergarten is sponsored by CLNH (Children’s Librarians of New Hampshire) and supported by the NH State Library, Center for the Book at the NH State Library, the NH Academy of Family Physicians, and NH Family Voices.
Early childhood experts have confirmed that the more you read to children, the more prepared and eager they will be when it comes time for them to learn to read independently. If you read the same book repeatedly, it counts each time! Reading books includes audio books, books read at Story Time, books read to your child by caregivers, family, etc.
